About Upper Township

Upper Township was formed as a precinct on April 2, 1723, and incorporated as one of New Jersey's original townships on February 21, 1798.

Portions of the township were later used to form Dennis Township on March 1, 1827, and Ocean City on March 3, 1884.

Today, Upper Township combines mainland villages, agricultural and wooded areas, established neighborhoods, coastal Strathmere, historic resources, school campuses, local business corridors, and convenient access to the Garden State Parkway, Ocean City, Sea Isle City, and Atlantic County.
